Microsoft is very much back in the game with the launch of Windows Phone 7 which has surprised many critics by actually offering an impressively user friendly and above all unique take on the modern smartphone operating system. Here are just some of the mobiles which will be running the platform and what they have to offer.
HTC HD7
This is the big boy of the first Windows Phone 7 handsets, sporting a 4.3 inch screen which the Taiwanese manufacturer has previously slapped on other entrants in the HD line including the HD2 and the Desire HD. Because of Microsoft`s enforcement of minimum system requirements the HD7 has a 1GHz processor and a five megapixel camera which can record video in 720p, so you can expect to see this similar base level of hardware specifications across many of the following mobiles. continue reading…

Having problems updating or downloading apps from the Android Market place?
Keep receiving the message ‘Download Unsuccessful’?
Here’s the simple solution to this very frustrating issue:
- Click the left menu button (bottom left of your phone) and click settings
- Click applications and then manage applications
- Press left menu button again and select filter
- Choose All from the pop-up
- Find the following applications and click on them one by one
- Checkin service – Clear Data
- Download Manager – Clear Data
- Google Apps – Clear Data
- Google Talk Service – Clear Data
- Market – Clear Data
Your application should download successfully at this point. You might have to repeat this process every now and then.

I was browsing through the XDA-Developers forum and noticed that Android Manager had been recommended for backing up your contacts and other data over Wifi. Some people claimed it was better than Kies.
So I decided to download and give it a try. There were two components. One went on my laptop and the other on my phone. In order to make connection over Wifi, I had to select a PIN which would be added at both ends. Next the app on the phone gave me the current IP address that needed to be entered into the software on the laptop.

I finally gave in and bought the Samsung Galaxy S i9000. And I must say it has been the best phone purchase ever.
Other Options
IPhone4 was not even in the running because IMO the unlocked version is way more expensive than other phones without giving that much more in terms of features and hardware. However, I am going to add it to the comparison where I can.
The other option I considered was HTC Desire. Read on to find why the Galaxy S won out over the HTC Desire.
The Screen
Galaxy S: 4″ Super AMOLED
HTC Desire: 3.7″ AMOLED/changed to S-LCD
IPHONE 4: 3.5″ Retina Display
The 4″ size alone beats the other two phones hands down. The Galaxy S screen is just fabulous! In fact it is the screen the blew me away when I first saw the phone.

Yes, I have sold my Windows Mobile phone i.e Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 and am now moving on to Android.
This leaves me with a lot of apps which are now useless for me. So I am looking to transfer the license to someone. You can get the following softwares at much less than the market price. These are original serial keys … only one per software. These apps are no longer installed on the Xperia I sold. It has been hard reset to be sent to the buyer.
Let me know if you are interested in any of these:
- Sprite Terminator: Buy for $9.99, originally $14.95
- Sprite Back Up: Buy for $19.99. originally $29.95
- Astraware Bejewelled: Buy for $3.99, originally $6.99
- Astraware Book Worm: Buy for $6.99, originally $9.99
- Astraware Boardgames: Buy for $6.99, originally $9.99
- VITO Audio Notes Touch: Buy for $9.99, originally $14.95
- Power SMS: Buy for $6.99, originally $9.95
- SKTools: Buy for $13.99, originally$18.99
- Airscanner Security Combo: Buy for $54.99, originally $91.98
Or buy all the above for $125. This is a great batch of softwares especially for someone starting out with a Windows Mobile.

I am thinking of selling my Sony Ericsson Xperia X1i. I got it in January 2009.
The phone is in great condition having been stuck in a leather case the whole time. No scratches as far as I can see. I will put up photos if anyone is interested.
The phone comes with a Noreve flip leather case worth £40 (there are some blue pen marks on the case)
It also comes with original softwares worth over £150.

Xperia has a 800×480 screen meaning a lot of programs do not work at this resolution. Not to mention a lot of softwares out there only work up to Win Mo 5. It is hard work sifting thru all these programs, seeing what works, what doesn’t, what is worth keeping and so on.
The good news is I’ve done most of the work. I’ve tried so many softwares and gotten down to the few that work great. So here are some that are great, others that might work for you and some you really need to stay away from.
FREE TOOLS AND UTILITIES
GMAIL Java App: The latest Gmail app does not work with Xperia but this one does. However, I prefer to use POP mail to download Gmail and that works better not to mention it is also more readable.

I have hard reset my Xperia so many times now that I’m sure I have memorized all the steps now. And don’t worry it wasn’t because Xperia has problems, I was just tweaking, testing and playing with the registry. Read on to save yourself all the time I have spent testing things out for you.
Align Screen
This is the first thing you will need to do in order to get your phone working. Make sure you use a stylus. Using your fingers is not a good idea as you will find the screen very unresponsive after that. I found out the hard way.

I have had a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 since November 15 and have been playing with it for the past 12 days. So far I am loving the phone.
First Impression
When I first saw the box, I was quite surprised. I had expected it to be bigger for some reason. The next surprise was the phone itself. It looked so small. And if that wasn’t enough I got another shock on sliding out the keyboard. The keys are so small but not in a bad way. It’s just that the photographs give you the impression of the phone being a bit bigger for some reason.

No I am not selling mine. I am enjoying it way too much to do that
To cut a long story short, I asked my cousin in the UK to get me an Xperia. We ordered from a shop which had it in stock. Turns out our shipment is delayed and my cousin being unsure of it being delivered in time (flight on Nov 14), ordered a back-up option on Ebay.
Now we have two phones on the way LOL.
